Dear Herb:
Thanks for your May 3 letter. Looking at the NAS
directory, I notice that the computer science people are in
several different sections. I decided to be in Applied
Mathematics, because it's apparently the section that nominated
me and because that's how I classify most of what I do. I see
that Marvin is in Applied Physical Sciences.
Naturally, I have yet to learn about the activities of NAS
carried on by its members rather than via the National Research
Council. Is there some activity that more computer scientists
will help, or is it simply a question of honor where honor is due?
I've been thinking about Robert Boyer and J Moore. It would
be easier if they were one person.
